Panoramic Views From The Balcony ~ Across The Taff River Valley
🌈🏡
“Y Bwthyn Bach”
(“The Little COTTAGE”)
A cheerful red door opens onto a flagstone entry hall, with bespoke coat rack; bench & boot tray.
(Slippers are provided, but bring your own if you prefer…
as there are no fitted carpets and the two staircases are both bare and very steep,
the kitchen steps being slate.)
The original staircase ahead leads up onto the bright, first floor landing, with more stunning views across the valley… (the top stair is a great, “quiet time”, spot, to escape for a while).
The two cosy bedrooms are to the front of the house, a bright, fresh Twin Room, with two 3’ Beds… and the pretty, “Angel Room”, with a comfy, 4’ Small Double Bed. These share the pretty, fully equipped, bathroom, with a shower over the bath, with double lace curtains, for your privacy… and all the toiletries etc you’ll need.
Bedding & towels are all provided.
Back down to the ground floor, and The Dining/Balcony Room. Here you can enjoy a more formal evening meal, then bring out the games, (in the corner cupboard - vintage Playing Cards; Scrabble; Monopoly & Trivial Pursuits) for the remainder of the evening.
This room also holds a very special surprise, the clue being in the name!
A West facing balcony, to sit out on and take in the spectacular, panoramic views across The Taff River Valley.
As the photos don’t do it justice, you’ll just have to come and see it for yourself!
(We would ask that you be aware our neighbours on both sides are quite elderly and go to bed around 9pm and although the interior walls are quite thick, you can actually hear any conversations from the balcony quite clearly… so be aware…!!)
A door in the left corner of The Balcony Room, leads you down the slate steps, (please turn the light on… as they are very steep) to The Basement Cwtch.
It’s a cosy kitchen!
The pantry is stocked with the basics - sugar; pasta; rice; porridge; my eclectic selection of teas; a Bosch/Tassimo Coffee Pod machine and plenty of biscuits… (if there’s a special favourite of yours, please let me know, I’ll be sure to sneak it in there for you.) The hob is gas & the oven electric; a fridge with an ice box, which will also be stocked with basics… milk; butter; eggs & bread… There’s an Air-Fryer, a small microwave under the curtain; a slow-cooker; a modern washing machine for your laundry, with a vintage airer over the original range fireplace, (not working yet… that’s a future project) perfect to dry out all those damp clothes! The back door leads out into a covered area, then onto the pretty, enclosed garden, where your dogs can mooch about safely, whilst you sip fizz and enjoy the spectacular sunsets across the Taff Valley… and where - somewhere far below - our beautiful, ancient Taff River wanders it’s gentle old way down from The Brecon Beacons, home to the sea.
When the day is done and after that well earned, hearty meal, you can retire to The Sitting Room. Here is the perfect escape from all the chaos, where you can either catch up on the evening news, just close your eyes for a while… or maybe even read that book you’ve been promising yourself for the longest time.
(Feel free to read any of our books, as long as you put them back please… most of the novels are available from Amazon if you don’t have time to finish one… but some are quite old treasures!)
Pauly has finally relented and put a tv in here (she’s not impressed…) ‘tho it’s only a 19”dtv, with the 5 main channels… plus a few extras… so don’t get too excited…
Free Home Broadband WiFi (4G) is also available, if you want to watch stuff on your mobile/ tablet… (it’s the new type, without a landline, so you can turn it off when not using… if you want to reduce the EMF’s in the cottage…)

Bits & Pieces
🏡
CHECKING IN
Key Safe Code given on arrival.
Please return it to the key safe every time you leave the cottage, for safety purposes.
WIFI
To connect your device - please hold it’s camera over the QR Code and a grey box will appear… click on this and you will be automatically connected.
PARKING
The lane is very narrow, so only one small vehicle please. If your vehicle is an estate or SUV, please unload your belongings on arrival and then either park up on The Hollies, or the lay-by behind the bus-stop - it’s only a 100 yards away - this is to avoid any mishaps - or the risk of being disturbed by neighbours - or even the bin men - trying to get past at 5am in the morning!
TRAVEL
If you’re coming by train, the nearest stations are Quakers Yard or Abercynon,
You can book your ticket to this station on Trainline and they will give you the necessary changes.
For the remainder of your stay, the No 78 bus stops at the end of the road - at 5 mins to the hour - (very flexible…) which goes into Nelson on its run between Merthyr Tydfil and Pontypridd.
NO SMOKING
No smoking inside the cottage please… the balcony, or outside the kitchen door are the best places for a puff... we’ll leave a special bin for the ends… we’d also appreciate it if you could remember to bring the sheepskin rugs in from the balcony chairs at night… in case it rains…
PETS
We are more than happy to accommodate your, “fur family ”… (we’ve said maximum of x 2, tho’ we’re open to persuasion re size etc) but if your dog hasn’t been spayed, there’s a risk they might want to mark new territory… so please be aware that it’s almost impossible to get rid of the smell… and we would have to get a specialist cleaner in for the whole house.
This is very expensive… and we would charge the invoice costs to you.
Also, please bring their blankets etc, to help them feel safe…
They can easily access the back garden, which is secure for them to explore.
(Don’t forget to collect the poos in bags as you go… the bags can then go straight into the black wheelie bin.)
DAMAGES
We would ask that you leave the cottage in the same condition as you find it, please… but any damage caused by willfull negligence, will be invoiced within 14 days of your stay.
If you just accidentally break something, please don’t panic… but please don’t throw it away, just leave it on the kitchen table so we can replace it, ready for the next guests…
AGE RESTRICTION
Due to the size & general style of the cottage, we’ve restricted the age limit to 12 yrs and older, for safety reasons but if you can guarantee their good behaviour, they are more than welcome.
Be warned that both staircases are very steep, so if your knees are weak, you may struggle…
INFO FOLDER & VISITORS LOG
There’s a Cottage Info Folder in the little writing desk - please read through on arrival.
A Visitor’s Log is for any - ⭐️ Positives 😱 Negatives - so please feel free to express what you enjoyed about your stay with us… plus any concerns you’ve had and we’ll do our very best to improve…
We do hope your experience with us are mainly positive
and thank you again, for choosing us…
